This GivingTuesday (December 3), Bama Houston will join together in a spirit of generosity to give back to current and prospective Bama-bound Houston students by raising money for the Houston Texas Chapter Endowed Scholarship.
For the current 2019-20 academic year at The University of Alabama, 13 outstanding Houston-area students are receiving awards totaling $15,500 from this scholarship.
GivingTuesday is the global giving movement that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage giving and generosity. Founded in 2012, GivingTuesday has inspired millions of people to give back and support the causes they believe in. It is celebrated on the Tuesday following the widely recognized shopping events of Black Friday and Cyber Monday as a kickoff to the charitable holiday season.
The Bama Houston Alumni Board has set a goal of 100 gifts totaling $1979 for GivingTuesday. The amount of $1979 celebrates the year 1979, when Big Al debuted and Bama won its 11th football national championship. The National Alumni Association will match all gifts in July 2020 with proceeds from the sale of University of Alabama license tags. In previous years, the NAA has awarded a match of 60-75 percent of annual contributions.
