Welcome from our Bama Houston Chapter President

Roll Tide and Welcome To a New Season and a Revitalized Alumni Chapter!

Roll Tide and Welcome To a New Season and a Revitalized Alumni Chapter!

Yes! The University of Alabama National Alumni Association – Houston, Texas Chapter, otherwise known as Bama Houston, is turning to you, our alumni. Never before have we had volunteers as active and as dedicated as we have right now! This ain’t your grandpa’s old alumni chapter. This is new!

In January, I took over the reins thinking I was going figure out how to increase our football watch party attendance. But, it didn’t take long to realize Bama Houston could be so much more! Our chapter, planted squarely in southeast Texas, is as economically resource-rich as any Alabama alumni chapter in the nation! Bama Houston can be the best! It’s time to regain the honor of Out-of-State Chapter of the Year from the National Alumni Association (NAA), an honor our chapter won in 2010-2011.

The goals of our chapter are pretty simple. Bama Houston wants to generate scholarship funds and recruit the best area high school students to our University of Alabama. Our philosophy is parallel to what we see in another large organization here in Houston. That would be the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. I don’t know of any HLSR volunteers that don’t have a good time. We feel that by having organized fun, we’ll ultimately generate scholarship funds. And with that excitement more high school students will want to attend our great university. Bama Houston can be a gateway for the University.

What is new? Besides having a number of motivated officers and launching this brand new website, we are currently building and organizing: Football ticket sales, Renewed Scholarship funding,Alumni Student Recruiting Support, Parents of Students Group, Young Alumni Group, Golfing, and Tide on the Town Dinner Series. We are also better coordinating student recruitment efforts with our Houston Regional Recruiter, improving social media communications, and football watch party experience. And we are planning our second Aggie Bash weekend (Oct 11-12), including Bama celebrities, live music, fabulous silent auction memorabilia and charter bus transportation to Texas A&M. Did I say we have Texas A&M tickets for sale? Stay tuned for any and all of the above!

Not only have our new officers been working hard on the above, but there are many other areas where we feel we can be a more complete chapter. Please refer to our new website for more details.

As good as we are, we still need more help as we plan more activities. We need ambitious volunteers and dues-paying members. Please know your local alumni dues go entirely to scholarship funding or to activities with the idea of generating scholarship funding. So no matter what your participation level may be we need your support! We will have fun!

We want everyone to know that not only is it the alumni our chapter supports, but also parents of students, students themselves and any friend of our university.  I’ll close by saying, it’s an honor to support our University of Alabama Houston Texas Alumni Chapter!

Roll Tide!!
