Bama Houston scholarships help Houston-area students attend The University of Alabama
All Houston-area students admitted to The University of Alabama by January 15 (previously Dec 15), and who have submitted the UA Application for Scholarships via myBama.ua.edu portal, are considered for our scholarships.
For more information about National Alumni Association scholarships, including NAA member-based scholarships for children and grandchildren of UA graduates, please visit alumni.ua.edu/scholarships/.
Each spring (usually early March), the Bama Houston Scholarship Committee initially asks for confirmation, via email (at personal and My Bama email accounts), of a continuing desire to enroll at UA from each applicant. You must respond to this email to be considered for a scholarship. The committee then reviews these students’ applications based on criteria set for each scholarship. Details are below. Number of recipients and award amounts vary each year based on projected endowment income.
During the 2020-2021 academic year, 11 outstanding Houston-area students are receiving scholarship awards totaling $16,500 from the Houston alumni chapter.
This scholarship is awarded to one or more entering freshmen from the Houston, Texas metro area based on academic achievement, leadership qualities, financial need and the potential to be future leaders of the Houston community. The award is automatically renewable for each subsequent year of a recipient’s undergraduate education, not to exceed eight semesters of undergraduate study, when a 3.0 GPA is maintained.
This scholarship alternates between the Houston Alumni Chapter and another alumni chapter in the state of Alabama. The Houston Alumni Chapter awards this scholarship in academic terms that end in even numbers. Selection is limited to entering freshmen students enrolling in the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Engineering, or the Capstone College of Nursing at The University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
This is a one-year scholarship awarded to a student enrolled in the College of Engineering. First priority is given to a freshman and second priority is given to an undergraduate student. Selections are made by the Dean of Engineering and The University of Alabama National Alumni Association.
This four-year renewable scholarship honors the resiliency and can-do attitude of Houstonians as it recognizes students who have persisted in overcoming challenges. Priority consideration is gven to entering freshmen who graduated from a high school located in the greater Houston Texas Chapter area; have achieved a minimum ACT score of 27, or equivalent SAT score; and are involved in school or community organizations. It is awarded by The University of Alabama National Alumni Association.
